CATNIP – another CAT system for translators

once upon a time my friend T_Moor advertised in the hub "I PR" my system for translators MT2007 (article). This article is a continuation of the story.

With the release of free swimming MT2007 much time has passed. I myself to do stopped, and the program slowly became obsolete, mainly technologically (it was written in WinForms for 32-bit systems). Finally the time came when more and more began to appear on 64 bit systems, where MT2007 just would not start.

By the time I myself switched to WPF and did not lay the soul to develop the project. Besides, he wrote on the knee, as I needed mostly for urgent translation work and the code inside was just awful. However, the interest in this cat, people kept warm and used it for a work. And after numerous requests I decided to rewrite it on new technology, adding some facilities, and in the future expanded functionality.

Unfortunately, time lacked and a new project developed at a pace slow waltz (for three years), with constant stops until one of the friends of the translators came to a hard-won decision to sponsor this. In the last six months, I basically sat on the "salary" and wrote and wrote and wrote... Catnip.

Now the Finance is over and although the cat is still in the making, but is used in real work. Most likely will have to slowly slow down, to take the other billable tasks, but to throw I do not want: too much work invested. All in all, it prompted me to write this article. Well, still hope that a possible positive response emotionally to cheer my somewhat extinguished inner flame.

At the moment it is early alpha version. Some features that are present in MT2007, there is, namely, a Central repository, plug-in dictionaries, Multitran website, system EBMT (Example-based mashine translation). All of this will soon appear. But there's something new:

For a couple of minutes the engine will find all non-overlapping repeats until the sentences and the translator can create translations for some or all of these terms.

Catnip embedded in the model file of the English WordNet, which in General copes by proposals for other languages, for example Russian. However, if the user can find the model of another language, it can spokoino to connect to Catnip.

Yes, Catnip is free for anyone to use anyone. Honestly, I just doubt whether it is possible as-that to earn some money one developer no support, competing with well-known brands of such systems, while not increasing the product price to dizzying heights. Maybe you can set the price for certain services to the group's work, for example for Translation, but it is thinking out loud. Why — free.
