Google search: change is Coming

Google is in the process of refining your search to make it more intuitive and give users more relevant answers to their queries, but if you read Mashable, you already know that.

"Honorary" employee and Google senior Vice President Amit Singhal told Mashable last month that the main idea is to go beyond the simple words in a world of objects and symbols and the relationships between them. This means that in the next few months, you will start to see slightly different search results. (Singhal also noted the history of Mashable in the post on Google+, explaining the changes regarding Google search).

As later noted in the article Wall Street Journal, search for the "Lake Tahoe" will also give key attributes that Google knows about the lake, including its altitude, location, salt content and average temperature. The query "What are the ten biggest lakes in California?" will give the answer to the question instead of just links to relevant websites.

Some search changes are already visible. From our previous article:

"Enter for example "Monet" into Google search and along with the regular results, you will see a small block at the bottom: "Searching for Claude Monet's paintings". In short the results of the best five or six works by the master. Singhal says it's an indication that Google search is beginning to understand that Monet is the artist and what is most important about him is his greatest work."

This achievement is part of a long movement of Google in the direction of your search into something similar with artificial intelligence. The company has accelerated this development is the purchase in 2010 Freebase, the knowledge base created by the community, which includes about 12 million canonical objects. This allowed the search engine to realize that phrases have different meaning than each word of them. For example, a Google search can distinguish a search for "New York" (transl: "new York") as opposed to a separate "New" and "York".

It's unclear how all this intersects with other recent changes in search that relate to integration with Google+ in search results.
